Boston Orientation: Layout and Directions
Central Boston is fairly compact and easy to travel around on either foot or by bus and 'trolleys', with many pedestrianized areas and large shopping centers, including Faneuil Hall / Quincy Market.
One of the best ways to understand the layout of Boston is to walk along the city's acclaimed Freedom Trail, which can be walked in around two to three hours and takes in many of Boston's most notable landmarks.
Standing behind Faneuil Hall you will find the lively Marketplace area, which is filled with vendors and a selection of eateries. To the south, Atlantic Avenue leads to Boston's premier New England Aquarium and the Christopher Columbus Park.
